🏛️ Issue of the Week: We’re the “Show Me State” for a Reason
Summary
Missouri is the “Show Me State”. I’ve always thought it was appropriate because Missourians consider people’s actions, not just their words, to tell us who they are. As I have been reflecting on the definitive results of the August 4 election, I can’t help but think that the voters are starting to connect the people, including my opponent, with the chaotic and dangerous way they are leading.
Over 80% of people thought Amendments 4 and 5 were wrong for Missouri. When have you known over 80% of people to definitively agree on anything? With that many people understanding this expensive election was pointless, they must also realize that the people behind it include my opponent and the man running to represent us in the State Senate. They are literally “Showing Us” who they are.
Here are some thoughts I’d like to share:
Our Current Majority Representation in Jefferson City Not Only Does Not Represent Us- They Don’t Even Respect Us:
Our leaders are supposed to work for us. And while that doesn’t mean they have to agree with every voter, it does mean they have to respect all of us. Our current “leadership” clearly does not. Here are the questions I regularly ask myself that make me believe this:
• How often do we see and hear from our current representation, outside of the occasional, often partisan, mailer? Are you seeing them in the community, knocking on your door, or even at regular town hall or public events?
• When you do reach out, follow them on social media, or check out their websites, do you get clear answers and direct responses, or do you get ignored or cheap slogans?
• Are they considering all of their constituents, or just their donors and the special interests that prop them up?
• Are they wasting precious time and tax payor resources on bad legislation, leadership, and pointless power grabs to break our government or help it be better and serve us?
When I ask these questions, I am not thrilled with the answers. My guess is you are not either. We deserve better.
Key 33 Details – Show Me 33
I started this campaign not knowing if I would win, but I knew I would show up. What an education I have had in this past year! From Lone Jack to Greenwood, from Lake Lotawana to Blue Springs, and all of the areas in between, people are just impressed that I am showing up and asking as many questions as I can.
Two statements I hear again and again, from fairs to libraries to city halls, are:
1) We are not seeing our current representative here, and
2) We are so glad you are here and asking us what needs to be fixed and how we think it should be done.
When I started this campaign, I knew I hadn’t seen or heard from my opponent in the community- I didn’t realize no one else had seen her either.
A Better Path Forward & Conclusion
Leaders show up. Leaders listen. Leaders solve problems with you. Leaders ask for help and they are the first ones to offer it.
That’s what I will promise you if you help me and help our district get the leadership it deserves.
And I do need your help. We have less than 3 months to reach thousands of voters to let them know they do in fact have a choice. I need volunteers, money, and supporters who will reach out into their community to get others to join us as well.
Get involved and I will show you how hard I work, how deeply I connect, and how dedicated I am to being the best I can be for all of us.
