September 11 Issue of the Week: We Are a State of Laws

Summary

The big news this past week was the unanimous Missouri State Supreme Court decision restoring the 2022 Congressional Map for the General Election this November, allowing a vote on those maps.

This is our democracy in action attempting to stop the chaos, confusion, and cost of a corrupt supermajority trying to bend or break the laws to override majority rule.

Make no mistake- this is a coordinated effort on their part, and if we don’t continue to pay attention and fight back, all of the citizens of Missouri will lose. This November Election needs to be the ELECTION OF NO.

See their pattern of chaos and what you need to do here:

What Has Been Happening, and Why Is It So Extreme?

Since the 2024 elections, the current Republican Leadership has held every statewide seat, both chambers of the State House, the Governorship, and are completely awash in money.

In Missouri, arguably a common-sense purple state, there has been only one way to stop extreme power that benefits the high-end donors to the Republican Party, and that is due process. These donors and their paid off politicians want to eliminate due process as well.

In the past two years, they have worked very hard to get rid of it. Here’s how:

• At the end of the 2025 Legislative Session, the Supermajority used a little-known way to end debate called the Previous Question, or PQ. This was used to reverse two issues Missouri voters approved in the November 2024 election- sick leave requirements for workers, and reproductive rights. This “nuclear option” not only cut off debate but also overturned the will of the voters.

• In the next term in 2026, the Republican “Leaders” put two Amendments on the August ballot. Amendment 4 was to change the petition process in Missouri, giving any one congressional district the ability to sink the will of the Missouri voters, and Amendment 5- eliminating the income tax in Missouri with no plan for how to fund the state. Both chaotic issues failed by over 80% and were a complete waste of time and money on the part of the voters.

• Further in 2026, the legislature, again drunk with power, decided to illegally Gerrymander Missouri Congressional Districts- something that is done every ten years- not at the whim of the legislature. Voters, angry with this power grab, turned in hundreds of thousands of signatures to allow the redistricting to

go to a vote of the people. Denny Hoskins, Republican Secretary of State, waited until one hour before the deadline, which happened to be August 4, the day of the primary election. Because of these shenanigans, many voters will have different general election candidates than they did for the primary. Hoskins was counting on being able to ram through the will of his donors over the will of the people. He failed.

The response of these so-called Republican “Leaders” when the law stops their illegal actions, is to respond that the laws shouldn’t matter. These folks will keep getting stronger if we keep electing them. Missouri voters need to understand that they need to elect people who support the amendments and initiatives that they do- not stop them at every chance.

Key 33 Details – Show Me 33

My opponent is one of the best examples of this drunk with power “leadership”. She has been a strong advocate for gerrymandered districts, a strong advocate for overturning the will of the voters, a strong advocate for eliminating the income tax and throwing the state into bankruptcy, and a strong advocate for eliminating due process.

She has rarely been in district, and I bet you have never met her, and my guess is most of your neighbors haven’t either- despite having 3 years to get the chance to do so.

How extreme is she? In 2024 when she won the state rep race, she “primaried” her opponent because, even though his voting record was almost completely lockstep with the Republican Leadership, when not allowed by leadership to speak on a bill favoring equal rights for LGBTQ community, he voted against it. He was one of the few openly gay Republican serving in 2024. As the Chair of the Jackson County Republicans, she decided to run against him. There was no Democratic challenger in 2024.

But I am here to challenge her now, and I need your support to stop the chaos, confusion and corruption that she represents. Make no mistake- I will work with any elected official or leader of any political party to find common ground- but that common ground has to respect democracy, the will of the people, and the interests of the citizens of Missouri. My opponent can’t say the same.

A Better Path Forward & Conclusion

We must stop this while we can. Missouri is a common-sense, purple state.

We are the “Show Me” State for a reason. The current leadership controls every statewide office, both houses of the legislature, and the governor’s mansion. They have shown us again and again who they are, weakening our laws and putting the desires of billionaire donors ahead of the rule of law.

Missouri deserves an end to the chaos, confusion, and corruption. It’s time to realign our leaders with the values of our state
